Calling for Community Voices
Remi Joseph-Salisbury, a respected anti-racist activist and academic based in Manchester, is calling for testimonies from young people, parents, carers, teachers, school staff, youth workers, and others about their experiences with police presence in schools. Known for his insightful research, including a report for Runnymede on policing in education, Remi aims to gather a wide range of voices to better understand how police in schools impact communities, especially marginalized groups.
This research seeks to highlight personal stories and perspectives on the role of police in educational settings, helping to inform future policies and practices. Anyone with experiences or observations related to school policing is encouraged to contribute, whether positive or negative.
Submissions can be made in the way that suits people best—via WhatsApp, email, or an online form. The contact details are as follows: WhatsApp at +44 7953 139936, email at schoolpoliceresearch@manchester.ac.uk, or through a short online submission form available at https://tinyurl.com/school-police-research.
This call for testimonies is being shared through community networks like BRIG to ensure the widest possible reach. By sharing their experiences, individuals can help shape a more just and equitable approach to policing in schools, contributing to a better understanding of its effects on young people and their communities.
