Nakba 78: Justice for Palestine & uniting against the Far Right
Plans are rapidly coming together for a major national demonstration in London on 16 May, as organisers call for mass participation in a march marking the 78th anniversary of the Nakba. The protest, titled “March for Palestine: United Against the Far Right,” will begin at 12 PM on Exhibition Road.
The demonstration aims to commemorate the Nakba — the mass displacement of Palestinians in 1948 — and to highlight what organisers describe as decades of ongoing oppression, including displacement, systemic discrimination, and violence. Participants will march to reaffirm support for Palestinian rights, including the right of return for refugees, while also voicing opposition to far-right movements in Britain.
Organisers are emphasising the importance of unity and turnout, framing the event as both a moment of remembrance and a call to collective action. “Our unity and solidarity are stronger than their hatred and division,” the announcement states, urging people across the UK to travel to London for what is expected to be a significant mobilisation.
Travel arrangements from Birmingham are already well underway. The West Midlands Palestine Solidarity Campaign (WMPSC) has nearly filled two coaches departing from Birmingham Central Mosque at 8:15 AM. Meanwhile, a coach organised by Stand Up To Racism (SUTR), departing from Birmingham city centre, is also filling up quickly.
There is also discussion of an additional coach being arranged by the Indian Workers’ Association (IWA), which could bring the total number of Birmingham coaches to four or five.
With demand growing and spaces filling fast, organisers are encouraging those planning to attend to secure transport as soon as possible and to stay updated via social media channels, particularly Stand Up To Racism’s Instagram.
The demonstration is expected to draw participants from across the country, reflecting continued public engagement with the issue and the broader political climate in the UK.
