The Quiet Revolution: A BRAP Podcast
BRAP’s podcast series, The Quiet Revolution, offers valuable insight into how the organisation works with senior public sector leaders to embed anti-racist thinking and practice.
The series brings together reflections from leaders who are challenged not just to engage with race issues, but to rethink how their organisations operate. Many describe transformative moments—“Damascenian” conversions—where assumptions are questioned and new perspectives emerge.
One episode, set within the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust, highlights the difficulty of addressing systemic racism through conventional leadership approaches. A senior leader reflects on the discomfort of recognising how existing practices may reinforce inequality.
The approach described shifts focus away from those experiencing racism and towards those in positions of power and leadership.
Underlying this work are key principles:
‘Race’ is socially constructed
Prevailing norms must be dismantled
Systemic racism must be exposed by disrupting power relationships
For organisations engaged in race awareness work, The Quiet Revolution provides an opportunity to reflect on what it takes to move from intention to lasting behavioural and organisational change.
