Birmingham Votes 2026: Campaign Urges Candidates to Take Stand Against Racism and Division
Brummies United Against Racism and Hate Crime is calling on candidates standing in the Birmingham local elections on 7 May 2026 to sign a pledge to stand against racism and the politics of division.
This comes at a time of increasing concern about divisive rhetoric across political parties, media, and social media, alongside reported incidents including:
Attacks on city residents
Racist graffiti was sprayed on a mosque
Far-right extremists are targeting young children in video games and online chat rooms
Anecdotal reports of abuse and intimidation shared via Brummies United’s WhatsApp and social media channels
About the pledge
Brummies United Against Racism and Hate Crime has launched a local election candidate pledge to ensure voters can see where candidates stand on racism and division.
The pledge invites candidates to publicly commit to an inclusive Birmingham.
The organisation will publish across its social media channels a list of:
Candidates who have signed the pledge (and provide graphics for campaign use)
Candidates who have refused to sign
Candidates who have not yet responded
