Beyond Racism Website Launch

The new BRIG Beyond Racism website went live on 2 February. It marks an important moment for BRIG and for everyone who has been part of this work over the past two years.

Beyond Racism is not just a new look or a new name. It reflects a shift in how we talk about our purpose. As our Chair, Ranjit Sondhi, has said, BRIG remains firmly committed to challenging racism wherever it exists. At the same time, we are being clearer about the world we are working towards: one where people are free to live, contribute and belong without being limited by race or other forms of discrimination.

Anti-racism remains central to this work. It is the practical, ongoing effort required to challenge inequality where it shows up in systems, policies and everyday decisions. For BRIG, the move to Beyond Racism signals a clear commitment to naming both the injustices we are working to address and the future we are trying to help bring into being.

The Beyond Racism website has been shaped by learning from Seeking the Pioneers, BRIG’s National Lottery Heritage Fund–supported programme. That work highlighted the importance of having a strong, shared digital home where stories, learning and insight could continue to be shared beyond the life of individual projects. Rather than creating a separate platform, BRIG chose to bring this learning into the Beyond Racism website, creating a single space that looks both back and forward.

The website has been developed through a partnership between BRIG and Aidem Digital, reflecting the depth of support, goodwill and shared commitment that Seeking the Pioneers has generated. The project has brought together people and organisations from across communities, the public and private sectors, academic institutions, and voluntary and social enterprises. We are grateful to National Lottery players, whose support made Seeking the Pioneers possible and helped create the conditions for this wider collaboration to take shape.

Through Seeking the Pioneers, BRIG set out to recognise and honour the pioneers of the past and present whose lives, actions and leadership have helped shape Birmingham. Their stories remind us that change does not happen by accident. It is carried by people who step forward, often at personal cost, and by those who come after them. Sharing this history is not only about looking back; it is about passing the baton, so that new generations can understand where they come from and carry the work forward in their own way.

The Beyond Racism website brings BRIG’s work into one place. It sets out why we exist, what we are focused on, and how people and organisations can get involved. It is intended as a living space, shaped by the work as it continues and by the voices of those who choose to be part of it.

Over time, we want the website to grow into a trusted source of knowledge on race and anti-racism, rooted in lived experience as well as research and learning from practice. We aim to bring together insight from across communities, institutions and sectors, and to amplify voices that are too often overlooked or marginalised in public debate.

The Beyond Racism website is now live. We hope you’ll take a look, share it with others, and see it as an open invitation to stay connected and be part of the shared work of moving beyond racism together.
