Hate Crime Awareness Week: Standing Together Against Hate
Every year, National Hate Crime Awareness Week brings communities across the UK together to raise awareness of hate crime, support those affected and consider how we can work collectively to prevent it.
This year, National Hate Crime Awareness Week takes place from 10 to 17 October 2026. Organised by 17-24-30 National Hate Crime Awareness Week, the week encourages authorities, key partners and communities affected by hate crime to work together to tackle hate crime across the UK.
Hate crime can have a lasting impact on individuals, families and communities. National Hate Crime Awareness Week encourages people to recognise hate, understand its impact, report incidents and work together to build stronger, safer and more inclusive communities.
The 2026 national campaign includes the H.O.P.E. Campaign: Hate Crime Awareness, Operational Responses, Prevention and Engagement. These four areas highlight the importance of understanding hate crime, improving responses, learning from incidents to help prevent further harm, and ensuring communities are involved in developing solutions.
This year, the NationalHCAW Act of Hope and Remembrance will also stand in solidarity with those affected by race hate crime directed towards asylum seekers and refugee communities.
Hate crime reporting is an important part of tackling hate. NationalHCAW provides information about different reporting routes, including the police, local councils, specialist third-party organisations and other reporting services. In an emergency, call 999; for non-emergency police reports, call 101.
However, tackling hate crime cannot be the responsibility of those experiencing it alone. Awareness Week provides an opportunity for communities, organisations and individuals to listen, learn, challenge prejudice and strengthen local networks of support.
This October, we can all play a part in creating communities where everyone can live safely, with dignity and without fear of hate.
We’re pleased to share that Birmingham Race Impact Group (BRIG) and our Community Cohesion Report have been included among the resources highlighted for Hate Crime Awareness Week by Birmingham Voluntary Service Council (BVSC).
The Hate Crime Awareness Week event is also featured on BVSC’s events page, helping to connect communities across Birmingham with information, resources and opportunities to take action against hate crime.
