legacy 0121

LEGACY was a groundbreaking live event that celebrates Birmingham’s rich heritage in grime, hip-hop, and rap. Taking place on Saturday, April 12, 2025, at Birmingham Symphony Hall, and Monday, April 28, 2025, at London’s Southbank Centre, the concert showcases 15 of Birmingham’s most iconic artists — including Lady Leshurr, Jaykae, Trilla, Roxxxan, and C4. These performers are joined by the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, a 75-piece ensemble conducted by award-winning maestro Phil Meadows, creating a powerful fusion of classical music with the raw energy of grime and rap.

LEGACY is more than just a concert — it's a tribute to the untold stories of Birmingham’s Black music scene, shining a light on the voices and influencers who have shaped the city’s cultural soundscape. The project also includes a companion docu-series, directed by Daniel Alexander and available on LinkUpTV, which offers deeper insight into the evolution of the scene. A newly released book further explores the history and lasting impact of Birmingham's grime and rap culture.

Bradley Morrison, Head of Marketing at Punch Records, shared his thoughts on the event:

LEGACY made UK history, bringing together 15 of Birmingham's greatest grime and rap artists to perform alongside the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra — an incredible 75-piece orchestra led by conductor Phil Meadows.

Produced by Punch Records and CBSO, this event was about giving some of 0121’s most vital voices a platform on two of the UK’s most prestigious stages: Birmingham Symphony Hall and the Southbank Centre in London.

From the beginning, LEGACY has been about elevating Birmingham’s music scene. The book and documentary (directed by Daniel Alexander) explore this further — but with this concert, the movement has gone national. It’s broadened the audience and created new possibilities for the future evolution of LEGACY as a concept.”
