Interested in writing for the BRIG Newsletter?

Have a story, idea or perspective you’d like to share?

The BRIG Newsletter is a monthly online publication by the Birmingham Race Impact Group (BRIG), sharing stories, perspectives and conversations connected to racial justice, equality and anti-racism across Birmingham and the West Midlands.

We’re looking for new and established writers to contribute articles, opinion pieces, book reviews and more.

What could you write about?

We’re interested in contributions that explore or highlight:

  • Local and regional stories — people, places, campaigns and issues across Birmingham and the West Midlands.

  • Racial justice and equality — campaigns, policy, research and initiatives challenging racism and inequality.

  • Community news and events — events, celebrations, projects, organisations and campaigns happening across our communities.

  • Black, Asian and Global Majority perspectives — experiences, ideas, histories and voices that deserve greater space and visibility.

  • Culture, books and ideas — book reviews, cultural commentary, interviews and reflections.

  • Campaigns and community organising — the people and movements working for social change.

  • History and heritage — stories about activists, campaigners and communities whose contributions have shaped Birmingham and beyond.

  • Opinion and analysis — thoughtful pieces that ask questions, challenge assumptions and encourage conversation.

If you have something you think our readers should know about, we’d like to hear from you.

Your contribution could be a carefully researched article, a personal perspective, a book review, an interview, a community story or something completely different.

Have an idea?

Send us a brief outline of your idea, along with a few lines about yourself and what you’d like to write.

We’re particularly keen to hear from new and emerging writers, community researchers, campaigners, students and people with lived experience who want to share their perspectives.

Have a story to tell? We’d love to hear from you.
