Join the Conversation: Asad Rehman on Climate and Racial Justice at BRIG Café

A special evening of discussion and community organising is set to take place on 11 May from 7–9PM at BRIG Café, as part of the Unite The People series.

The event will feature an in-conversation with Asad Rehman, a leading voice on climate justice and its intersections with racial and economic inequality. From his early days in grassroots anti-racist activism in Burnley to his leadership role at Friends of the Earth, Rehman has been at the forefront of reshaping how environmental issues are understood through a justice lens.

This in-depth conversation will explore the connections between climate change and social inequality, as well as the growing impact of far-right division in the UK. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with Rehman’s insights and reflect on the challenges facing communities today.

The event is part of Unite The People (UTP), a cultural movement dedicated to peace, justice, and a future beyond racism. Bringing together activists, artists, and community members from across Birmingham and the West Midlands, UTP creates spaces for dialogue, creativity, and solidarity. The BRIG Café sessions aim to help shape the upcoming 2026 Unite The People Festival Rally while strengthening local networks of resistance and collaboration.

Organised in partnership with Birmingham Race Impact Group, Stand Up to Racism Birmingham, Kings Heath United Against Racism, and other local partners, the event invites all who are interested in building community power and challenging racism.

Organisers encourage attendees to come along, share their experiences, and be part of a growing movement rooted in solidarity and collective action.
