Poetic Justice And Still We Rise - Empowerment Through Poetry, Creativity & Writing
“Each time a woman stands up for herself, without knowing it possibly, without claiming it, she stands up for all women.” – Maya Angelou.
Poetic Justice And Still We Rise is a project bringing women together through poetry, spoken word, storytelling and creative writing. Creating a safe and supportive space to share your voices while exploring lived experiences and learning from one another.
Open to Global Majority women aged 18+, the project welcomes people with or without previous writing, poetry, or spoken word experience. Participants will take part in a series of in-person weekly evening workshops, beginning in October 2026 at the BRIG Café at The Warehouse in Digbeth, Birmingham.
Through these workshops with poets, writers and storytellers, you will have the opportunity to develop your creative work, connect with others, explore experiences of exclusion, oppression, racism, resistance, and how we rise, survive & thrive.
It’s also a chance to help create and have your work published in the Poetic Justice: And Still We Rise publication, receive your own copies, and be part of a podcast series connected to the project.
Our stories, our words – this is about creating spaces for women’s voices to be heard, creativity to flourish and experiences to be shared.
Spaces are limited. For more information or to express your interest, contact Shirin Housee & Ruchi Tandon at shigwig0061@gmail.com ruchitandy@hotmail.com, or call 07786 727182.
